OUR STORY
Element began in 2008 with a launch team of young adults who felt a deep calling to plant a church of people that didn’t go to church, because they would take ownership to be the church. They desired to be a church where sharing their stories, time, and resources with one another through generous hospitality would be the norm. They would seek to steward their calling, their energy, and their finances - everything - to leave each other and their city better than they found them. Finally, it needed to be done with simplicity. They didn’t want a slew of programs or a bloated budget. They wanted to let nothing overcomplicate the essentials of loving God and loving people.
Years later, we have only leaned more fully into that same calling. But something more has happened - God has grown Element Church into a flourishing community of believers whose ownership, hospitality, stewardship, and simplicity has overflowed into the way we live and move in the world. We have learned to see the sacred everywhere, and to see the image of God in everyone. We have learned that embodied faith practices keep us near to the truth of our Belovedness and help form us in the likeness of Jesus. We have learned that the third way of grace is often the road less traveled, but that it is the path we still choose. And we’ve learned that our spiritual transformation is never just for us. It is so that we can be the hands and feet of Jesus to each other, our neighbor, our city, and our world.
We look to God in adoration. We look like Jesus through formation. We look with God in mature, self-emptying love as we celebrate the good, mourn for the broken, and work together toward the coming wholeness, when all shall be well. We know that this is the end of the story, but there is much to be written between now and then. Join us, and watch how all our stories are threaded together into the One True Narrative of Redemption.
